Frequently Asked Questions

Before Your Session (Reiki and/or Sound)

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing. You will remain fully clothed throughout your session.

Should I eat before my session?

Yes. I recommend eating a light meal or snack within a few hours of your appointment.

Can I drink coffee before my session?

If possible, limit caffeine for approximately 12 hours before your session. This is a preparation recommendation, not medical advice.

Can I drink alcohol or use cannabis before my session?

For the best experience, avoid alcohol, recreational cannabis, and other non-prescribed intoxicating substances for at least 12 hours before your appointment. Continue taking all prescription medications exactly as directed by your licensed healthcare provider.

What if I have a medical condition?

My services complement—not replace—appropriate medical care. Consult your healthcare provider if you have questions about whether a session is appropriate for your particular health concerns.

During Your Session

What happens during an in-person Reiki and/or sound healing session?

Each session is individualized based on your goals and comfort level. We begin with a brief conversation before moving into the agreed-upon complementary wellness modalities.

Will you touch me?

Within the Usui Reiki tradition, both light-touch and hands-off approaches are recognized and widely practiced. My personal preference is to work primarily within the client's biofield, with my hands positioned just above the body rather than making physical contact. I have found this approach allows me to better perceive subtle shifts throughout the session while respecting each client's comfort and personal space. For clients receiving in-person sessions in Florida, Reiki is provided as a hands-off modality, and tuning forks are used within and around the biofield rather than directly on the body, in accordance with applicable Florida requirements.

What will an energy session feel like?

Everyone experiences Reiki and/or sound baths differently. Common body sensations include, warmth, tingling, coolness, twitching, as well as laughing, crying, sometimes even burping, coughing, passing gas or needing to use the restroom. Some feel nothing at all. It is all normal. There is no "correct" reaction to energy work.

What am I supposed to do during the session?

Simply relax. There is no 'right' way to experience a session.

What if I don't feel anything?

Every person's experience is different. The absence of noticeable sensations does not mean the session was ineffective.

Distance Reiki Sessions

What is an Asynchronous Distance Reiki session?

Asynchronous appointments are complete Distance Reiki sessions without the use of Zoom, video or phone. The session is performed at an agreed-upon time without you needing to be available. You may rest, meditate, journal-- be asleep-- or even be working. You are not restricted by your daily schedule. Many clients appreciate this flexibility, especially when balancing work, travel, family obligations or navigating different time zones.

What is a Synchronous Distance Reiki session?

A synchronous session occurs over video call (Zoom) and requires that you have time set aside, in a private space, while we connect over video for the course of the Distance Reiki session. Head-sets are recommended for purposes of privacy and reducing background noise. Sessions are not limited by physical location, but they are limited by time zone.

How can you offer Distance Reiki?

Great question! Distance Reiki is a traditional from of Reiki in which the practitioner does not need to be physically present with the client. Rather than relying on physical touch, the Reiki practitioners work with the body's biofield-- a field of energy described in both traditional Reiki practice and increasingly explored in the emerging areas of biofield science.

How can you connect with me if you don't see me?

That's the beauty of energy work. Usui Reiki Practitioners (Level II and III/Master) receive specialized training in conducting Distance Reiki sessions and in ensuring that Reiki is being sent to and received by the intended recipient. At the time of the booking, you will receive a Welcome Packet. As part of the consent form, you will be asked a few short questions to ensure the connection. Sending a photo is always helpful (and fun) too, but not at all required :)

Can I book a Distance Reiki session for a friend or loved one?

Absolutely, with the person's consent and knowledge. While anyone can offer blessings and good intentions for another person, a Reiki session connects with and works with a person's biofield. Though Reiki can do no harm, it is an intimate process and-- in my opinion-- ethically questionable to perform a Reiki session without someone's express consent. If you are the legal caretaker of someone unable to give written or verbal consent, please contact me so we can discuss options.

Is Distance Reiki effective?

Yes, because Reiki is not considered dependent on physical proximity, practitioners traditionally view distance Reiki as being just as effective as an in-person session.

Do we have to meet over Zoom or video?

No. Distance Reiki does not require a video call. Asynchronous appointments are sessions that occur without us being connected online. Just make sure to specify which type of Distance Reiki session you prefer when booking.

I live in a different time zone-- what if I am working, sleeping etc?

The beauty of asynchronous Distance Reiki sessions is that they do not require the client to stop what they are doing. If you are able to meditate or relax during your scheduled appointment time, that is always welcome. However, if you are working, or even sleeping, the energy will still find you. The important factor is that you are open and willing and set the intention to accept the session for your highest good. As with in-person Reiki sessions, it is requested and recommended that you not be under the influence of alcohol or other recreational mind-altering substances during your session, and for the hours surrounding it.

Can others attend my Distance Reiki (or in-person Reiki) sessions?

Privacy is important. Please ensure you have a private space, uninterrupted (including by pets-- they tend to want to "help" or participate) where conversations and process can be respected. If another person in the household would like a Reiki session, I can attempt to schedule back-to-back sessions, but I can only accommodate one individual in one session.

How will I know when the Distance Reiki session starts?

Distance Reiki sessions are booked for a time slot, and confirmed, just as other sessions are. I will start the session at the booked time. If you are meeting with me over Zoom, you will receive a link during the appointment confirmation that will allow you to enter into the session.

How will I know when my (asynchronous) Distance Reiki session is over?

You will either receive a text or email letting you know that your session was completed with additional follow-up details.

After Your Session (Reiki and/or Sound)

How might I feel afterward?

Many clients describe feeling relaxed, peaceful, mentally clear, or refreshed. Others notice subtle changes over the following hours or days. Every experience is unique.

What if I cry, have vivid dreams, or feel emotional afterward?

Some clients report temporary emotional release, vivid dreams, or heightened awareness of thoughts and feelings after a session. Periods of deep relaxation may allow emotions or stress that were previously in the background to come into greater awareness. These experiences vary from person to person and are not considered a measure of whether a session was successful. They usually dissipate as the body reintegrates the experience and releases that which is no longer serving you. If you experience severe, persistent, or concerning physical or psychological symptoms, please contact an appropriate licensed healthcare provider.

Is it normal to feel tired afterward?

Yes. Some people feel energized while others prefer additional rest. Stay hydrated, nourish yourself, and allow your body time to settle.

What should I do after my session?

• Drink plenty of water.
• Eat nourishing meals.
• Rest if your body asks for it.
• Spend time outdoors if possible.
• Journal any observations.
• Approach your experience with curiosity rather than expectation.

General Questions

How many sessions will I need?

Some clients schedule a single session, while others incorporate sessions into an ongoing wellness routine. We can discuss what best supports your goals.

Do I have to believe in Reiki or energy work?

No. Clients come from many different backgrounds and belief systems. Curiosity and an open mind are welcome, but no particular belief system is required.

Does this replace medical or mental health treatment?

No. My services are complementary wellness practices and are not intended to replace medical, psychological, or mental health care.

Why is it called a sound bath? Is there bathing involved? Do we keep clothes on?

No literal bathing! All sessions are conducted fully clothed! The term “sound bath” refers to being surrounded by sound : )
